In June 2016, the authorities of the Kaluga region and the management of the Austrian concern Kronospan signed an agreement on the construction of a wood fibreboard plant in the region. The investment amount will be 200 million euro.

The Kaluga enterprise will become the company’s fourth Russian asset. An MDF plant in Ufa started to operate recently, and two chipboard and MDF/HDF production sites have long been operating in the Moscow region.

The Kronospan’s press service also reports that the Austrians plan to construct new production lines in the Kaliningrad region and in Bashkiria. The authorities of these regions have already signed the memorandum of understanding. The total amount of investments in the declared Russian projects is expected to be 600 million euro.

According to Ardasher Kurbansho, Director General of Kronospan LLC, new enterprises are being built with a view to export wood-based panels. Products from Ufa will be shipped to the countries of Central Asia, Iran and Western China. 98% of the boards from the Kaliningrad region will go to the EU countries, mainly to Scandinavia. As for external supplies from the plant in the Kaluga region, the company intends to sell half of its products both on Asian and European markets.
